Weekend Sweets: Applesauce Spice Squares

This is a great recipe for a holiday party. They have a nice spicy flavor which pairs nicely with the sweet icing. The picture doesn't do these babies justice. My husband and I ate the whole pan by ourselves in three days, and that was using restraint!
Ingredients:
Base:
1 C applesauce
2/3 C brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 C shortening
1 C flour ( I used 1/2 white 1/2 wheat)
1 t soda
1/2 t salt
1/2 t cinnamon
dash of ground cloves
dash of ginger
dash of nutmeg
1/2 C raisins

Icing:
3 T butter (melted)
1 1/2 C powdered sugar
1 T milk
1 t vanilla
1/4 t cinnamon

Step 1: Preheat oven to 350. Mix all of the ingredients for the base together until well mixed. Pour into greased 9x13 pan. Bake for 25 minutes.

Step 2: Wait for the bars to cool completely. Mix all the bar ingredients together and beat until smooth. Ice the bars and cut into cute little squares.
