Weekend Sweets: Gingerbread Brownies

These gingerbread brownies are my new favorite thing. I'm not a huge brownie fan (I'm more of a cookie gal) but these are so good; I already had two for breakfast this morning! I messed up a bit on the icing and put it on before they were all the way cool, so it melted into the brownies, but I'm okay with that!
Ingredients:

Brownies:
1/2 C butter
1 C sugar
2 eggs
3/4 C hot water
3/4 C molasses
1 1/2 C milk chocolate chips (melted)
1 1/2 C flour
1 C wheat flour
2 t ground ginger
2 t baking soda
1/2 t salt
1 C finely chopped walnuts

Icing:
1 C powdered sugar
4 T milk

Step 1: Preheat oven to 350. Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and beat until smooth. Add hot water, molasses, and melted chocolate chips and mix until well blended.

Step 2: In a separate bowl, sift together flours, ginger, baking soda and salt. Slowly add flour mixture to the molasses mixture and blend well. Gently mix in chopped walnuts.

Step 3: Pour batter into a greased, large edged cookie sheet (mine was 10.5"x15.5"). Bake for about 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely.

Step 4: Once the brownies are completely cool, whip together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth. ice the brownies and allow the icing to harden. Cut into 2" squares and serve. Makes about 3 dozen brownies!
